Cruise ship companies can prevent man overboard incidents by installing safety rails and barriers, and by providing life jackets for passengers.

Requiring cruise ship companies to install more safety rails and barriers.
Requiring cruise ship companies to provide life jackets for all passengers.
Requiring cruise ship companies to train their crew members on how to prevent and respond to man overboard incidents.

These recommendations have helped to improve the safety of cruise ships for all passengers. Since the NTSB's investigation, there have been no further man overboard incidents on Carnival cruise ships.
