Investors who are willing to stay invested for the long term are more likely to achieve their financial goals. Second, a long-term investment horizon allows investors to take advantage of compound interest. Compound interest is the interest that is earned on interest. Over time, compound interest can have a significant impact on the growth of an investment. Third, a long-term investment horizon allows investors to avoid making emotional decisions. Of course, there are also some challenges to having a long-term investment horizon. One challenge is that it can be difficult to stay patient when the stock market is down. Another challenge is that investors may need to make changes to their investment strategy as they get closer to retirement. However, the benefits of having a long-term investment horizon outweigh the challenges.
